Conversations With The Chairman: Hire The Right People

By: Steve Sadler, CEO, Allegiancy

You have to focus on getting the right people in your company—having people of good will who are bright, thoughtful and motivated is really the essential ingredient.

Ultimately, whatever plan you begin with is not how you’re going to end up anyway, so the key is to have good people interacting, building something together, people who are invested in the process so that your end result is both fun and valuable when you finally get there.

Jim Collins wrote “Good to Great” and “Built to Last,” and in both of those books, one of the key points of emphasis was getting the right people on the bus.

The people are what make a great company. Someone famous once said, “Serendipity is where opportunity meets preparedness.”

One of the things about having good people on the team is that you’re always prepared no matter what comes, so focus on those people.
